Knowing When It’s Time to Replace Your Implants

Breast implants can enhance your confidence and self-esteem. No matter how and why you’ve had implants, it is important to note that your implants may not last a lifetime. Although rare, some women opt to replace their implants, whether for health reasons or simply because they want to. Whether you already have implants or are considering them, it’s important to know why you might consider replacing them in the future. Here are some common reasons.

Ruptured Implants

Implant ruptures are a real concern to consider if you want implants, although this is rare. If you have saline implants, you’ll notice that the breast deflates as the saline filling is safely absorbed by the body. A silicone implant rupture may not be obvious, so it’s important to have them regularly checked for weaknesses or ruptures. If you experience any type of implant rupture, it is important that you have them replaced as soon as possible.

You Want Something Different

It’s not uncommon to change your mind when it comes to breast implants. You may have started off wanting something a little smaller, but are now looking to increase your cup size and go for a more dramatic look. Others may want to go with a smaller breast cup, so they want to replace the implants they currently have with smaller ones. Additionally, you may want to try a new or different type of implant. These are all valid reasons to consider changing out and replacing your implants.

Implant Sagging

Your implants may begin to sag over time, which can lead to the desire for them to be replaced. Sagging happens because of gravity over time, and also life events like pregnancy or weight loss. If you want to replace your implants because of sagging, you plastic surgeon might recommend a breast lift at the same time.

Capsular Contracture

In rare cases, the scar tissue around the breast implants can become hard, which is known as capsular contracture. This can sometimes cause the breast implants to shift out of place and look unnatural and uneven. If you experience capsular contracture, it can be detrimental to your health if you don’t address it with the help of your plastic surgeon.
