Helping You Prepare For Breast Augmentation Surgery

The art of plastic surgery has come a long way, thanks to advances in technology. Now, breast augmentation surgery is safer than it’s ever been, allowing women to achieve results that can change the way they look and feel.

If you are planning to have breast augmentation surgery, whether to enhance the size or shape of your breasts after pregnancy or simply to make them fuller or larger, it’s important that you educate yourself about the process and listen carefully to your doctor’s recommendations on how to prepare for the operation.

By taking certain steps before and after the procedure, you will not only avoid certain risks, but you will also ensure a healthy recovery and longer lasting results. Dr. Husni and his staff are dedicated to patient education and will provide you with in-depth instructions on how to properly prepare for breast augmentation surgery so you know what to expect.

The following are just a few of the topics he will discuss with you:

  • Your health — you may need to have a medical exam, receive lab testing
or get a mammogram prior to surgery.
  • Medications — it is important to tell your surgeon about all the prescription and over-the-counter medications as well as herbal supplements you are taking. You may need to adjust certain medications before surgery and will be given a list of drugs to avoid such as aspirin, anti-inflammatories and certain herbal supplements that contain ginkgo biloba or green tea, as they may increase bleeding.
  • Smoking — if you are a smoker, you should avoid smoking for at least two weeks before and two weeks after surgery. Nicotine inhibits oxygen circulation, putting patients at a greater risk of complications. Smoking can result in a serious skin condition that can lead to problems healing and unnecessary scarring.
  • Eat a healthy diet — try to eat healthy and avoid drinking alcohol for a few days before surgery. Your surgeon may also instruct you to avoid eating or drinking anything (including water) after a certain time the night before surgery.
  • Plan ahead — make sure any prescriptions medications your surgeon prescribes are filled before surgery so you don’t have to worry about picking them up. You should also arrange for a ride to and from surgery and for someone to stay with you for 24 hours after your breast augmentation surgery.
  • Take it easy — there are things you can do to make it easier on yourself after surgery. For instance, you may want to prepare meals in advance or stock up on ready-made meals so you can take it easy after surgery. You may also want to put things you will need in an easy-to-reach location so you can avoid lifting your arms.

Dr. Husni will go over these and other instructions to help you prepare for your breast augmentation surgery. He will also answer any questions you may have and address all your concerns so you feel confident about your decision.
