Eight Steps to Great Skin at Any Age

Skin Care in Cleveland, OH

Good skin isn’t impossible. You can experience great skin at any age by using these steps.

1. Lifestyle Changes

Smoking is one of the leading causes of wrinkles. Nicotine actually degrades the collagen in the skin, leading to thinner skin and more wrinkles. While the chemicals in cigarettes are harmful, the actual motion of puffing on a cigarette causes wrinkles to form around your lips and mouth. While many people don’t realize that this causes wrinkles, a lifestyle change can be very beneficial for beautiful, healthy skin for years to come.

2. Chemical Peels

As you get older, your skin begins to show more signs of aging. Plastic surgeons are able to help combat fine lines and wrinkles through peels, which are the application of chemicals to the skin. When the chemicals are applied properly, they remove the surface layers of skin leaving behind a more youthful and radiant appearance.

3. Prescription Skin Care

It doesn’t matter how much you spend at the department store on fancy skin care products, they will always be less effective than the prescription-strength products you receive from your doctor.  Physician dispensed skin care products are allowed by the FDA to contain much higher amounts of the active ingredients than department store brands, because you are under a doctor’s care.  Physician-dispensed products are oftentimes less expensive than fancy over the counter brands as well.

Acne can pop up at any age. If over-the-counter treatments don’t soothe your troubled skin, your doctor may prescribe a topical ointment. These ointments work in different ways, depending on their ingredients. Some will work by killing the bacteria, while others will remove excess oils or speed up the growth of new skin cells. Some of these products not only fight acne, but also help to prevent signs of aging. Talk to your doctor to find out which products are best for you.

4.Sunscreen

If you want to save your skin, avoid tanning beds and apply sunscreen daily. Try and limit your exposure to damaging rays, especially to the facial area and neck, by using a hat when outdoors. When choosing your sunscreen, remember that the SPF factor rates how effective it will be for preventing sunburn. Therefore, the higher the SPF the more protection your skin will have.

5. Brow Lift

A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a procedure that involves an incision being created from ear to ear across the top of the head, within the hair-bearing skin. This may be the best option to remove your deep-set wrinkles, and to restore the smooth skin on your forehead and on the bridge of your nose, between the eyes.

6. Injectables

While Botox is usually the most commonly known, there are many different injectables and fillers that can prevent or treat wrinkles facial. Injectables are a good alternative for looking younger without surgery because they are less invasive. Talk to your doctor about which injectable would work best for you.

7. Laser Procedures

If you are suffering from fine lines, spider veins, rosacea, and age spots, plastic surgeons offer a treatment called laser resurfacing. This works by aiming pulsating beams of light at the damaged area to precisely remove one layer of damage at a time. The results leave your skin looking more youthful, with improved tone and overall appearance.

8. Facelift

Facelifts can reduce the appearance of aging and make your face and skin look years younger. This is perfect for people who are looking for a more substantial change and want to remove all wrinkles from their face. This procedure is wonderful if you currently live a healthy lifestyle and options like injectables are no longer delivering the desired results.
