Breast Augmentation Maintenance

We’ve already covered how to prepare before your breast augmentation – now we want to make sure you’re set after your surgery, even years later!

It’s no surprise that breast augmentation in Cleveland is the most popular aesthetic procedures performed. However, what may come as a surprise is how important breast augmentation maintenance is right after the procedure all the way to 10 years down the road. By giving your implants the proper attention they deserve, you will be able to enjoy your investment longer.

Recovery After Breast Augmentation

Right after your breast implant procedure, your surgeon will give you specific instructions to follow to ensure best possible recovery. You should be able to walk immediately after breast surgery, and it will be very important to continue movement every few minutes to prevent the possibility of blood clots. In addition to encouraging blood flow, you will want to closely follow the instructions regarding any drains that are placed, as well as compression garments. Your recovery care will set you on the right track for optimal results.

After the First Year

It is recommended that you pay your surgeon a visit once a year to make sure you are still happy with your results, and are not experiencing any complications, such as capsular contracture. All women should be getting annual breast exams and after the age of 45, it is recommended that all women participate in breast cancer screenings. With these maintenance measures, you can hopefully catch any concerns or issues before they become severe.

Several Years After

In general, if there is nothing wrong with your implants there won’t be any need to replace them. However, certain complications and wear and tear of implants may not be easily detectable. As a rule of thumb for silicone implants, the FDA recommends getting an MRI three years after implantation to make sure that nothing has ruptured or has been compromised in any way. For saline implants, you will most likely realize if your implant breaks since you’ll experience a quick deflation of the breast. For best results, pay your surgeon a visit if you ever have any concerns.
